The Decoy Raft

Every now and then someone adds value to waterfowl community by creating something new that improves the way we hunt and adds value to our lives. For me value is defined not in dollars and cents, but rather in time saved in the marsh, open water, or river bottoms and ducks killed.

The Decoy Raft by Southern Flyway Outfitters is one such product. Most hard core waterfowlers have used a net rig at one time or another and understand how frustrating they can be use. Having to reset the nets every time a retrieve is made by a lab or fellow hunter, deducts from the overall value of the hunting experience. It can also be a tiresome experience to constantly have to reset the nets.

The Decoy Raft adds value to my life as it reduces the amount of time it takes to set out a spread of decoys, move your decoys in the middle of a hunt and retrieve the decoys at the end of the day. On an average day we run long lines with 200 plus decoys. This always leads to limits of ducks and geese, but also to long days on the water, and unnecessary time away from my family.  To set out such an aggressive spread we arrive two plus hours before shooting light and spend additional hours at the end of the day retrieving the heavy foam filled diver decoys and sea duck decoys that we use.

Now with the Decoy Raft our lives have been transformed. First, we now we have the ability to run eight Decoy Rafts, with 18 to 24 decoys on each one. I suggest running 18 decoys on the raft itself and another 6 on the lead attached to the anchor line. The Decoy Raft is approximately 12 feet long and five feet wide. They fit nicely into a decoy sled for guys that hunt from the bank and easily fit inside the gunnels of a boat. Whether use one or ten Decoy Rafts when you hunt, the ease of deployment and retrieval will save you your most valuable asset, time.

The Decoy Raft is ruggedly built and meticulously designed with:

  • 80 Connection Points
  • 40 Stainless Steel Clips
  • Over 15,000 stitches

The best part about the Decoy Raft is it attracts ducks. Ducks will drop in straight out of the sky on top of the raft of decoys. When dogs step on the raft retrieving birds the raft snaps right back into shape. There is no need to reset your decoys. Countless numbers of variations and configurations make the Decoy Raft perfect for open water, timber, potholes, and sea-duck hunting. It allows you to save time and energy, while achieving more success in the field.

With a single anchor you can hold in place multiple rafts in place and give your spread the look of rafting ducks on the water that is simply irresistible to birds in flight.

The Decoy Raft was born not only as the ultimate in flyway trickery, but also as a solution to the problems that accompany the harsh conditions that the seasoned waterfowler battles during the migration.  The Decoy Raft establishes itself as an irreplaceable necessity in the Waterfowler’s deadly arsenal. The Decoy Raft™ offers the level of working class ruggedness and artistic deception that defines the traditional waterfowler and echoes back to a heritage rooted in pre-dawn mornings, hand carved juniper decoys, northwest winds, and burning powder over a tidal marsh…
